Trail Life is a ministry designed to develop faith, character, good citizenship, and practical life skills for boys. The ministry is led by dads who participate with their sons in weekly meetings, monthly outdoor activities (camping, backpacking, canoeing, etc.), and other events built around fun, adventure, and Christian values. Their mission? To strengthen father-son relationships and enable rich discipleship. Boys have the opportunity to earn merit badges and progress in ranks as they learn new skills and achieve milestones along the way. They also participate in leadership, service, and community building activities.

American Heritage Girls is very similar to Trail Life, although focused on developing girls into godly young women. Like Trail Life, the ministry is designed to strengthen mother-daughter relationships, and to develop godly character, good citizenship, leadership, and practical life skills for girls. It uses similar programming approaches as Trail Life, however it is designed expressly for girls.

While both Trail Life and American Heritage Girls have programs for children from age 5 to 18, we think it will be best to start with children in kindergarten through fifth grade. As we get experience and learn of interest, we could add layers to the program for older children.

To make these ministries successful, active parental involvement is critical. Each age-group needs adult mentors to help facilitate activities, and both ministries will need parents to help organize and lead. We also welcome grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other caring First Evan adults who have a heart to help, especially those with backgrounds and skills with the activities involved or with similar organizations.

Our vision for these new ministries is to have weekly meetings on Tuesday nights to allow families to participate together. Trial Life and American Heritage Girls are distinct with different activities and advancement programs. Although the two ministries would be separate and distinct, they would meet on the same night at First Evan and come together periodically during the year to celebrate milestones and enjoy fun events and activities for the whole family.

We will have an initial interest meeting planned for Sunday, August 27, in the Fellowship Hall following worship. Lunch will be provided. Anyone with school age children (1st through 5th grade) who would like to learn more is invited to attend. You are welcome to bring your children.
