“And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” – Deuteronomy 6:6-9 (NLT)
Family Ministry at First Evan basically encompasses the seasons of life from the cradle to the empty nest. Children, Youth, and College students, along with their parents, make up the primary constituency of family ministry. Our goal is not to usurp the role of parents in any way, but rather to come alongside them, encourage and resource them in any possible way. We love to see ministry to families through families, even engaging grandparents and others who no longer have children in the home to mentor, disciple and encourage those in the throes of the child-raising years.
Family Ministry also seeks to connect older students to younger children for ministry and mentoring purposes and connect our younger ones to our older adults for ministry and service.
In short, there are four objectives to Family Ministry. They are:
1) Provide engaging children and youth programs
2) Offer parent training programming
3) Provide intergenerational opportunities
4) Help parents become the primary disciple-makers of their children
