Report of the Deacons

FIRST EVANGELICAL CHURCH
SEMI-ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
Report of the Deacons
May 21, 2017

Thank you for your prayers and financial gifts this past year which supported staff, ministry initiatives and caring for our facility. Your gifts have made an impact in both tangible and intangible ways. Salaries for pastors, staff and ministry activities were provided. Facility challenges and needs were met. The Lord is using the people of First Evan to impact our body and those around us. We regularly hear God at Work stories on Sunday mornings as well as in private conversations.

We are now fully staffed with creative and energetic people directing and supporting ministry. Our 1,000 Day Critical Initiatives (Worshipping Richly, Equipping Thoroughly, Embracing Hospitality, Mixing Generations, Engaging Neighbors) are being integrated by our staff and engaged church-wide in various activities. Members and guests are experiencing God’s richness as we interact, fellowship, worship and grow together in our journey of being Christ’s disciples.

A significant challenge this past year was overcoming the move of ECS elementary school. Although there was income loss, there were also gains of additional space for ministry and a reduction in facility-related costs. Our staff worked alongside one of our non-sitting deacons to develop and implement a plan that minimized the impact of the move. The result was lower maintenance and janitorial costs, reduced utility usage and additional adult classroom space. The overall financial impact of the move was diminished greatly.

There was also a flooring replacement in the children’s ministry hallway and the hallway by the kitchen. This improved the overall aesthetics for our members and their guests. It also provided a more maintenance-friendly finish that enabled us to maintain the floors in-house. This will provide additional savings benefits into the future. Additionally, there were some drainage and waterproofing issues that were addressed to extend the durability of our facility.

The deacons have worked closely along with the elders and pastoral staff to develop a very practical ministry budget. Your continued gifts will fund the 2017-2018 budget, which will be considered at the May 21 congregational meeting. Pray for the deacons that we may continue to be good stewards of the financial and physical resources that God has entrusted to us. We ask for your continued prayers for First Evangelical Church, the body, support staff, the pastors and leadership as we serve alongside one another in honoring the Lord in what we do while worshipping Him daily in our lives.

Respectfully submitted,
