Report of the Deacons

Report of the Deacons
November 12, 2017

The Deacons of First Evangelical Church have been entrusted with the stewardship of business and financial aspects of the church. That responsibility includes financials, security, and the building and grounds of First Evan. The Deacons oversee four funds; Ministry, Missions, Building and Benevolent funds.

The staffing and day to day operations of our church fall under the Ministry Fund. The Director of Global Missions and the Missions Board monitor the Missions Fund and oversee care of our missionaries. The Building Fund is used for major maintenance, improvement and repair of our facility. The Benevolence Fund is used to help those in our congregation and beyond with significant needs. All of these funds are vital to the overall ministry of our church.

Through your prayers and financial gifts, we were able to meet expenses as we finished our 2016–2017 fiscal year in June. That gave us a good position to start off our 2017–2018 fiscal year. We thank you for your generous giving and ongoing support.

The report on giving is both encouraging and challenging. The encouraging part is that the first two months of this fiscal year were strong in overall giving. The challenge is that for the last couple of months we have started to fall behind giving for budgetary needs. That usually has an impact on additional ministry opportunities as the year progresses if we don’t catch up with the budget.

Some of the building challenges met this year include some recent broken water pipes that caused us to cut off electrical service to portions of the building on a Wednesday evening until repairs were made. Additionally, there were planned repairs that were completed recently which include replacement of the C-wing roof, and sealing of cracks in the parking lots.

Our 1,000 Day Critical Initiatives (Worshiping Richly, Equipping Thoroughly, Embracing Hospitality, Mixing Generations, Engaging Neighbors) are being integrated by our staff and engaged church-wide in various activities. We encourage you to continue embracing these individually and corporately.

We ask for your continued prayers as we move through this next year. Pray we will be good stewards of the resources God has entrusted to us, through your generous giving and that we would honor the Lord through our service to the congregation of First Evangelical Church.

Respectfully Submitted,

David Dingeldein
