Jeff Findlay was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He attended the University of Oregon where he earned a B.S. in vocal music, thus officially making him a “duck.” He taught in the public school for a couple of years before travelling professionally with the Norman Luboff Choir. He then earned a M.A. in choral conducting from California State University Long Beach. After another stint in the public schools Jeff became the music director for Southwest Bible Church and Christian School in Beaverton, Oregon. In 2000 Jeff was called into the Pastoral ministry here at First Evangelical Church where he currently serves as Pastor of Senior Adult Ministries and Pastoral Care. In the summer of 2007 he completed his Masters of Divinity degree from Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina. He was ordained here at First Evan in August of 2007.
Jeff came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior while travelling with the Continental Singers in 1974. Jeff has had many opportunities to travel abroad including Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Jeff is married to Genalee and has three daughters, Kaylee and Kelsey who are twins, and a younger daughter, Kelli.
- Life Verse: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
- Life Ministry Verse: “Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.” (Colossians 1:28).
- Hobbies/Interests: I love to play tennis and currently am playing doubles with a group of seniors. I also enjoy golf and sailing. For exercise I love to ride my bicycle around Shelby Farms. I also love to read, and I am happiest when I can be with my family by the ocean. I also love sports of all kinds, especially Pac-10 football – “go ducks!”
- Favorite Foods: I am definitely a meat and potatoes kind of guy. I have taken a personal vow to never eat turnip greens.
- People are surprised to know: At 10 years old I was stuck in an elevator between floors in Zurich, Switzerland. I was also in a college choir that sang at the memorial service for Karen Carpenter.
- Ambitions/Aspirations: To be all that the Lord wants me to be and serve Him with all my heart.
- What do you like to read: For the past six years I have been reading Seminary books so I am anxious to begin reading a variety of other books. The Bible is my favorite, but I do like novels and biographies.
- Best counsel/advice you’ve ever been given: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,” (Col. 3:23), and “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Cor. 15:58).
