Cole loves reading and writing and has had articles published in Christian magazines like Discipleship Journal.  He’s been a runner for many years and has to keep running to stay up with his five children: Caleb, Helen, Holly Lynn, Caley Kate, and Colson.

  • Life verse: “I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free” (Ps. 119:32).
  • Favorite foods:  I’m a meat and potatoes kind of guy; southern cooking is best—I love how Southerners can deep fry anything!
  • Favorite movie and why: Cry, the Beloved Country; a marvelous story of forgiveness.
  • Hobbies/Pastimes/Interests: Other than reading, writing, and running, some camping, hiking, biking, and I’ve always loved whitewater when I can do it.  Even though I didn’t go to school there, with family heritage in Nashville I have followed Vanderbilt athletics since I was boy.
  • Ambitions/Aspirations: To be in the Georgia Dome when Vandy wins their first SEC football championship!  More attainably, I’d like to travel and teach on every continent (been to Europe, Africa, and Asia), and with my family.  I would like to publish some books also.
  • What do you like to read: I like writers whose prose leaves you wanting more it’s so good, writers who can bring “new treasures from old storehouses” (Matt. 13:52), and writers who challenge me to think even if I don’t always agree with them philosophically or theologically.  Some of my favorite authors are C. S. Lewis, Eugene Peterson, Cornelius Plantinga, D. A. Carson, Philip Yancey, John Stott, Ravi Zacharias, Mark Buchanan, Joseph Epstein, and historical biographers.
  • People are surprised to know:  I am of Turkish descent on my mother’s side.
  • Best counsel/advice you’ve ever been given: “The mark of a saint of God is not how well he’s doing, but what he does when he’s not doing well” (John Hannah).
