Andrew Beach was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Gordon College near Boston, Massachusetts, studying Youth Ministries as well as Biblical and Theological Studies. During college he worked at summer camps where he met his wife, Sarah, and they have been married since June of 2005. After graduating in May of 2003, he spent a year at The Falls Church Fellows Program in Falls Church, Virginia, working in high school ministry and taking elective seminary classes.
Andrew has been on staff as the junior high youth pastor at First Evan since April of 2005. Though he cannot escape his past as a “Yankee,” since moving to Memphis Andrew has acquired a passion for college football and sweet, sweet, sweet tea.
- Life verse: “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ” (Philippians 1:9-10).
- Favorite thing about Memphis: Besides eating REAL barbeque, being close to new cities that I am anxious to explore. Nashville, Dallas, St. Louis, Atlanta, Birmingham and others are foreign to a Northeastern boy who is used to New York, Baltimore, Boston, Washington DC and others.
- Favorite movie and why: Remember the Titans, because of the unity and triumph that came out of diversity and adversity.
- Hobbies/Pastimes/Interests: I enjoy sports. Love watching them, playing them, and lacrosse is my favorite (and it’s slowly catching on in Memphis). I also enjoy listening to music..if I only I could keep the tune!
- Ambitions/Aspirations: If I had to summarize it, I think Henry David Thoreau put it best when he wrote, “And not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”
- Biggest influence in my relationship with Christ: My junior high youth pastor, Rod Arters. He demonstrated to me that a relationship with Jesus was life to the full, not just a list of do’s and don’ts. His influence and friendship have been a great influence on who I am today.
- People are surprised to know: I started going bald in high school.
- Best counsel/advice you’ve ever been given: Don’t compare yourself to others because you will always lose. You will lose because you often compare things you know the most about yourself to things you know the least about someone else.
